Chicana painter Scarlett Baily specializes in murals, live art, and portraits. Identity, multiculturalism, and belonging motivate Baily’s creative practice in her pursuit to correct history and celebrate diversity.
Scarlett Baily is a Chicana muralist, painter, and illustrator with studios in Mexico City, and San Diego, CA. Her work explores and celebrates heritage and popular culture, easily identified by long sinuous lines and gestural minimalism with pops of color.
Her studio work draws upon her own multicultural upbringing to tackle issues of identity, racism, and belonging. Working in large scale and often in public, her mission is to tell the stories that news and popular media outlets leave out. She draws attention to the nuances of culture, with an aim to preserve diversity, and resist the homogeneity that globalization proposes. She believes that her illustrated wonderlands and participatory art events can inspire empathy and bridge communities.
Her work can be seen from Madison Avenue NYC to the outdoor walls of the largest market in the world, Central de Abastos in Mexico City. She has been recently inaugurated into the Society of Caricature Artists of Mexico
